The LSGE is a scientific
society of medical doctors who are interested in the function and
diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. The aim of the Society is to
promote scientific progress, keep the GI community up to date with the
latest advances in the GI field, encourage research and publications,
increase the awareness of both physicians and the public about practice
recommendations, and eventually serve as an advocate of the
Gastroenterologists in the Medical arena and the society.
Like almost any organisation, the LSGE had a rebirth after the ending of
the so-called Civil War. In 1992, a new Board was elected with Dr Albert
Chemaly as President for a period of two years. Since then, the society
kept on growing with the following eminent physicians as Presidents: Drs
William Nasr , Souheil Othman, Labib Abou Chahine, Khalil Khoury, Jean
Paul Aoun, Kassem Barada and the current President
Dr Raymond Sayegh.
Currently, there are 150 active members in the Society, from every
region in Lebanon, the majority being trained endoscopists.
In order to promote the set goals, the Society organises, on a regular
basis, scientific sessions given by local gastroenterologists and
physicians from other fields, alternatively between the different
Lebanese cities. A yearly Congress is held, with the majority of
speakers being well recognised international experts.
Many other scientific events are done under the auspice of the Society.
Through constant work and commitment, the Society will continue to
gather the whole GI community, and help its members to proceed on the
way of excellence. |
